The Badge

Everyday when I come home, Desmond wants my work badge, I think he wants to see and play with it more then he wants to see or play with me! He loves it. It completely fascinates him. If I want his attention all I have to do is dangle it around and he comes a crawling and laughing. It is like it is his sole mission in life to get that badge in his hand and play with it and slobber all over it. This is an everyday thing after work for us.

Can you see the drool on his chin? yup that ends up on my badge.

The Crib

So the crib is now at rock bottom, the lowest setting it can go to. The little baby boy is not so little any more. He is close to being a master ninja that will jump out of it at anytime. He is not crazy about being lowered to this new level in society. Ever since lowering it, the sleepless nights have increased. We have tried everything, feeding him more, turned off the white noise,  all sorts of things, thinking that was it. I think the boy is just getting big, and wanting more. We will keep at it, and he will find his schedule again. Here is a picture of him and mommy laughing and giggling as they looked at each other through the crib. It was very sweet and funny. He loves to laugh at his mom, particularly when she acts all goofy.

look at those teeth!

The Lion

Desmond is a lion, or so it seems these days. He likes to growl or rawr as I like to call it. It makes me laugh every single time he does it. I love it! He will crawl up on you and get right in your face and try to eat it off, all the while growling and rawring. You can’t help but laugh at this. I was able to catch a small bit on video this weekend. It is getting hard to catch these little things on video, as he seem to get quiet as soon as the camera comes out. It is like a mute button. So here is a small little clip for your enjoyment. :)

Deep Thoughts, Desmond 4 Comments »

There was a few times this last week where I thought, “if I just get in this car and drive, I can drive away and no one will find me! I can hide, and escape everything!” But no that was not what I did. You see my car has no A/C and I do not like to drive in it very long. I hate sweating. Plus I would not have got very far because Desmond can chase me down now! It is official, the boy can crawl. He is all over the place. I am not safe anywhere. Tonight I was trying to set my camera up on my tripod to take a photo of the moon. Wherever I moved in the living room, he was after me on all fours, before I knew it he was eating my ankles swinging from the tripod. He thought it was a giant new toy! So we had some fun and took some photos. I seem to remember a time when it was much easier to take photos of him. I would just plop him down on the floor and snap away. Now I plop him down, get in position, and he is gone! Or he is chasing me down. So all the photos are of him crawling as fast as he can towards me! My subject is now a moving target, and has a mind of his own! He wants to tackle me, or the camera. Ohh and he loves cables. All kinds, as long as its long, and attached to something expensive like a laptop or plasma tv, or xbox, or lamp, or cordless phone…….hahaa just seeing if you were paying attention. Nothing is safe anymore. I gave him some network cable this weekend, he was thrilled to be able to chew on some CAT5. Here are some photos from today.

As a side note. This has been an eventful blog posting. I started writing this post at 10pm, its now after midnight. I have been up and down back and forth from the computer. You see Desmond has a tummy bug. So far its been three cribsheet changes, three outfit changes, and some time in the dry bathtub together so he could throw up freely without concern for surrondings. It is going to be a long night. Jackie is with him now. She is such a good mom. He is not upset, just tired, and confused as to why he cant keep his dinner down.

I would never run away from what life throws my way. Even if I did have a car with A/C. You see I have a little boy who needs me, and a wife who loves me. No amount of bad days can take that away. Love for each other keeps us going. I hope everyone has a great week! Ohh and Wednesday I will have some video of him crawling!

Son of a Beach!

Desmond, Family, Photos, The Boys 2 Comments »

This weekend, was supposed to be our family get away vacation. Jackie and I would be taking our dear son Desmond to the beach! He would enjoy some sand, and some water, life would be grand! Ok, so there was some holes in our plan.

1. Jackie forgot her bathing suit.
2. My swimming trunks would not stay on me.
3. The beach was in Atlanta?
4. Desmond had started teething again this weekend.

Ok so reason #4 was the kicker. How could we spend over $40 to try and force our child to have mandatory fun at a fake beach in the middle of Atlanta? So being as cheap as I am, ( I like to call it frugally creative, but people just call me cheap anyway, even to my face! you know who you are) I did the next best thing. Sucking up and pooling (no pun intended) all the resources of the Rutledge family household. I filled up two kiddy pools, threw in some balls (but not these balls as Benjamin might say. But actually yeah I did) and then turned on a sprinkler, bringing the beach to their front yard! You see, when you mix a little Irish in with a little GA redneck, you make for some good ole’ fashion fun times! Thank you Rutledge’s for making our summer beach vacation come true!

Ohh and if you cant tell from these pictures, Desmond LOVES water. Loves, Loves, Loves it!! So enjoy some splish splash photos from this weekend. Danny also had a blast, they interacted a lot more this weekend. That was fun to watch.

Will look pityful for a Buck….

Bananarama….Alabama

Desmond’s 1st time eating a Banana

What a weekend/week it has been! This weekend Jackie and I hitched a ride over to Alabama to see her Uncle Jack and Aunt Linda. What a blast we had, but getting there, now that was something to blog about. I learned a few things about Jackie’s mom. She is pretty famous for her sense of direction. We have nicknamed her “MomStar” because we always call her when we are lost. However she now seems to use Starbucks as her compass. Starbuck locations are like her North Star in the sky. She knows where they all are, and they all eventually lead to your destination, so just follow the starbucks. Her dad’s car did not have a speedometer, so the needle pointed to the gears and not the MPH. So if the needle was on R you were in “racing mode” D and you were “dragging” we either were doing a 100mph at times or 25mph it was hard to say. 6 hours later we completed a 4 hour trip, you do the math.

This was my first trip to see Uncle Jack and Aunt Linda over in Alabama. He is has been fighting cancer for a few months now. He was in great spirits and look as strong as ever. He had me laughing pretty good. He also gives his brother Bob a real hard time, an even much harder time then I do, which was great to witness. He also had a new hair do, which I think looked very “Bruce Willis”. So who knows maybe Uncle Jack and him can do a new Die Hard movie or something. Aunt Linda cooked some of the best food, it was endless. Thank you so much for that! I did not get many pictures from the weekend (sorry Heather). We were just having too much fun to take any! I got some of Jackie and Desmond in their pool, and of their dog Pearl, who just loved Desmond, and kept bringing him her toys to play with. It was very sweet. I am throwing in an extra picture of Desmond eating Banana. He made some priceless faces, but loved it! He just was not real sure about it. Ohh and one more thing, he is soooooo close to crawling, he gets up on all fours with no problem, and just rocks like he is about to take off. I will get some video together soon.

Are you giving me lip?
